can i buy these mixed reality controllers separately? i have the lenovo explorer headset but still need the controllers and can't find them

I've have never seen them advertised . Your best bet is 2nd hand on ebay .

Will this work on Linux?

I very much doubt that it will, all software is designed for Windows so to play any games you would need Windows.
