Mmmm-mmmm! - I grew up on this as the basis of a favorite dessert (that happens to be a northern German “national dish.” When in Hamburg, I think I saw it on every menu, from the simplest to the fanciest restaurants!). I add about 24-28 ounces of macerated raspberries and/or a mix of raspberries and strawberries — fresh or frozen — to the base pie-filling recipe on the box, refrigerate for a few hours, and serve it with a splash of heavy cream or 1/2 & 1/2 on top. It takes minutes to make, and it’s pure ambrosia. Seriously, as tasty as any dessert you’ve ever eaten, as crazy as that sounds. After not having had it in probably 20 years, it has now become a nightly staple for me. I never tire of it. Btw, adding the fruit stretches the contents of each box from 4 servings to between 5 and 6. And with a tablespoon of sugar for macerating the fruit AND adding a tbsp of heavy cream before serving, it’s still only between 175 and 190 calories per very delicious serving. What a winner!

Even if you're not a Dane, this pudding is over the top. I was raided on it, 70-to-80 years ago by my Danish grandmother (bestemor), and I crave it. Simple, quick, delicious. I just make a straight pudding.
